About your Instructor: Alan Nyiri

Photo Club President

Alan Nyiri has explored the world of photographic imagery for over forty years. He “distinguished” himself early on as president of his high school Photography Club - also the A-V Club, the Science Club, and the Chess Club (there’s a definite pattern here). OK, he’s a geek, but an insatiably curious and inquisitive one.

In 1980, Alan established himself as a professional photographer. His publishing company, I.R.I. Studios, has created books for such clients as Stanford, Cornell, Georgetown, UCLA and USC. Additionally, he has published five books of his personal landscape and nature images (the most recent, Acadia Panorama, was released in the spring of 2008). He was selected by retiring University of California President Richard Atkinson to create a photographic archive of all ten campuses in 2003. His work has appeared in numerous books, magazines and calendars.

“Photography is a portal towards a wider awareness of our world and a tool for the close, detailed examination of its wonders. When we learn to see photographically, we learn to perceive the world as it really is, without prejudice and preconception. As this methodology becomes habit, our experience of life is immeasurably deepened and enriched.”
